Field Rifle & Scoped 3-Positional Rule Book

As one of the SSAA's founding disciplines, Scoped 3-Positional is an event that applies practically to a large number of shooters and hunters by aiming to improve hunting marksmanship under rifle range conditions, and at the same time teaching them the capabilities and limitations of their equipment. Scoped 3-Positional uses rimfire and centrefire rifles and is designed around the three field shooting positions of prone, standing and sitting/kneeling.


Equipment Classes

Rimfire Rifle - allows for any scoped rimfire rifle chambered in .22LR, with a maximum weight of 4.0 kgs and trigger of any release weight. Refer to the Rule Book regarding other equipment specifications.

Centrefire Rifle - allows for a scoped centrefire rifle of any calibre and chambered for any factory or wildcat cartridge to be used, with a maximum weight of 5.0 kgs (including sights) and trigger of any release weight. Refer to the Rule Book regarding other equipment specifications.


Course of Fire

The following course of fire for Rimfire Scoped 3-Positional club events are as follows:

- 20 shots at 50m in the prone position (30 mins)
- 20 shots at 50m in the offhand position (30 mins)
- 20 shots at 50m in the sitting/kneeling position (30 mins)

The following course of fire for Centrefire Scoped 3-Positional club events are as follows:

- 20 shots at 100m in the prone position (30 mins)
- 20 shots at 100m in the offhand position (30 mins)
- 20 shots at 100m in the sitting/kneeling position (30 mins)
